CE Certification for Elevators, Escalators and Moving Walks

The European Standard EN 12016:2013, EN 12016:2004+A1:2008 lays out the safety requirements for lifts, escalators and moving walks. The standard mentioned is concerned with immunity performance criteria and test levels for equipment used in lifts, escalators and moving walks and are planned to be installed permanently in buildings. The directive also refers to EM conditions that are in existence in residential, official or industrial settings. It corresponds to all hazardous conditions related to lifts, escalators and moving walks when these are used or intended to be used under the situations foreseen by the lift escalators or moving walks installer and manufacturer. The special considerations are to be kept in mind as the size of the total assembly of the lifts, escalators and moving walks make it impossible to be tested wholly in a laboratory or in situ where other external variables may affect the procedures and results of the test.

The manufacturers that deal in lifts, escalators or moving walks and the installers that deal with related equipment need to ensure that all the products fulfil the safety requirements mentioned in the directive EN 12016:2013, EN 12016:2004+A1:2008. According to the directive, an accredited body must provide relevant certification after the verification of design or installation if the equipment is not previously designed, prefabricated, installed or checked by relevant notified body as it is written in lift directive. The CE Certification, a third party service, requires a notification for the conformity of assessment procedure that comply with EU-type examination.

There are wide range of benefits that a manufacturer can enjoy after the relevant certification. It enables the manufacturers or installer to get the declaration of conformity to the European standards as stated in EN 12016:2013, EN 12016:2004+A1:2008 that allows access to national as well as international markets. It would also allow you to form a partnership with the accredited institute of Eurotech ACSPL that provides conformity assessment for the specific directive and other related directives that involves slow lifts, mobile platforms or lift connected to machines and comes under machinery directive. The fast and reliable services enable the manufacturers to meet standard and legal requirements as specified in directives.

However, the standard does not apply to apparatus that does not involve safety requirements of lifts, escalators, and moving walks that is lighting or communication apparatus etc. Also it does not apply to such electromagnetic environments such as railways, metros, radio-transmitter stations, heavy industrial plants, power stations and others that require additional investigation. Testing and performance of general function apparatus used in assembly of the final product is not included in the directive or the apparatus that is manufactured before the publication of the directive.
