The SEP corresponds to the Sound Engineering practices that corresponds to the category that require no specific measures to comply with Pressure Equipment Directive PED 97/23/EU. However, as the equipment constitute the part of some machine and serves as an important component of machine the relation of the equipment cannot be ignored with Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and the regulations that are set in the directive must be met as to render the equipment reliable and trustworthy of use. The CE marking is not required to show any compliance with the PED.
In contrast to equipment is SEP (sound engineering practices) the equipment in the category 1 has the modest compliance requirements. The usual requirements of compliance with the machinery directive must be fulfilled along with the technical documentation. The technical documentation comprise of the assessment in which equipment design, manufacturing and its functioning must comply to the international regulations and to carry out the necessary procedures to get CE marking.
There are some exclusions to the equipment and Clause 3.6 refers to these specific exclusions for the equipment that is grouped as no higher than category 1. Though the procedure of exclusion seems simple and eliminates any further need to go through the lengthy process yet the practice is still different. It is needed to go through the process mentioned in the Pressure Equipment Directive to decide whether the equipment really falls into the ‘no higher than category 1’ so there is need to carefully use the clause 3.6 as in most situations it is rather less helpful in making a decision.
