Design Verification and Validation

Building the right thing is all about meeting the customer’s needs while building it right confirms that your product specifications have been implemented & cascaded into your quality system such that your process & it’s output (final product) meets all of the technical & functional specifications as well as the customer’s needs.

 

Design Verification:

The most important question which is to be answered at the time of product verification is ‘Are we building the product right?’ Or we can say that, we verify the systems used to build our product are working well.

Therefore, verification is the process which we use to determine the quality of our product.

Some of the most common verification methods used are automated tests, integration tests and code review.

From the design point of view, verifying is something which you accomplish when building a sitemap, clear and concise guidelines, an operational wire frame or while checking the consistency across multiple user interfaces.

Design Validation:

It is a wider and an on-going process. With this, we check whether the product we are building matches the needs of the business as well as the users. The main question to be answered here is ‘Are we building the right product?’ Aside from this, some other questions that should be asked are like; ‘Is there a big enough market for the product?’, ‘Is it solving a real problem?’ or ‘Does it represent a key point for our business in terms marketing, revenue or improvement?’

Validation should start from the early stages of the product life cycle and should last till the final stages. The most common methods used for product validation are surveys or questionnaires, eye tracking, A/B tests, and continuous monitoring of how the users are interacting and reacting to the product.
