The standard EN 415-10 of packaging machine is an addition to the EN 415 that provide an easy process for CE marking of packaging machines according to the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC that are not mentioned in the previous parts of standards. It complements the existing nine other standards in the EN 415 directive that were not included in specific C standards of EN 415. The standard also save the manufacturers from an effort to go through long lists of individual standards for the appropriate certification of their products as they simply refer to EN 415 part 10. Although the EN 415 series includes many packing machines such as wrapping, strapping, forming, filling, sealing etc. however such machines that include soldering or inspecting are specifically addressed in part 10 of the standard. Certification and verification of design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, adjustment, operation, cleaning and maintenance are dealt in detail whenever the packaging machines are used or intended to be used under the conditions foreseeable by manufacturer.
The hazards associated with the specific machines are addressed in Clause 4. The hazard could be initiated depending on various conditions of working principle of machine, size and shape of the product, the material used in packaging, accessories related to machine or the environment in which the machine is used. The machines that were manufactured before this standard published are not included in the scope of standard. Additionally, the risk associated with machines used in public accessed areas are also beyond the scope of the standard and manufacturer should carefully analyze the conditions where this specific directive is applicable.
